Shadows of Belgium # 10

Hello everyone

Just a quick note to let you know that the November edition of Shadows of Belgium (the Camarilla Belgium magazine) is now online for your viewing pleasure. If adobe has turned the pages in the wrong way again, it's easy to solve by saving a copy to your computer and turning them in the right direction then :)
(adobe has the option for that)

I hope you enjoy it!

Hey all

I know that there's been a discussion for a while about the future of this community, especially as neither [personal profile] chrisvenus or [profile] quisalan are members of the Camarilla anymore. Traffic has dropped off sharply since the end of the old World of Darkness, and I know that both Chris and Krys have said that they'd rather that Shadow Writers stay a repository of old stories, rather than try and chronicle a new world.

Therefore, I have started a new community. I've pillaged the original concept of this community shamelessly, and the name, and have created [community profile] writing_shadows. It's designed for current members of the Camarilla to write about their characters, and about their adventures in the New World of Darkness.

I know it's a bit slow in coming, but better late than never.

So, if you're about here and are still involved in the Cam, then may I recommend joining it. I've put one of my Changeling stories up there, and I'd love to see some more fic.

I hope to see you there.

Pen pals...

Dix sat in the quiet darkness of Glenbrook’s study, examining the face of the simple giant clutching a folder full of letters. “Can I give you the letters back now please?” Dix shook his head with a wry smile, pondering his mascot. Joe never did forget his manners, though he might have the mind of a child but he’d known he could rely on him to deliver letters when others would be distracted or diverted.

“Burn them Joe, and thank you. It’s good to know I have you to trust this to.” The child-like man smiled, loving the attention from the motorbike gang boss who was the centre of his jet-set world. Standing Dix laid a hand on his shoulder, moving to stand by the window where the sight of the large man lighting the candle wouldn’t raise his Beast.

One by one letters, simple, handwritten letters, were fed to the candle then dropped into the metal bucket. Joe carefully laying each burning piece of paper into it and reading off the name of the next one – names of those important to Dix.

John…Tanya…Shamus…Elli…Jo…Hetta…Aida…Jack…Dani…Eva…Ryna…Seth…Becky…Rod…Sara…a half dozen more. Name follows name into the metal bucket – words lost to the flames. When the last falls Dix speaks, calling Joe over to him and shakes his hand. “Job done mate, cheers”

The two men leave the room together – last letters a thing for another night, another time.

[another character piece, more of a headspace one this time...comments welcomed!

In the still darkness of a large room one of two corpses moves slightly, eyes opening to scan the room for any threat. Satisfied no enemy lurks in the dark places Dix turns back, taking in the gentle scent of vanilla from his partners hair, brandy on himself from a night of excess and the undertone of heady, coppery scent of vitae which always seem to fill the room to the delicate nose of a vampire. Shifting carefully to avoid waking the woman whose bed he shared Dix slides away to open the curtains, two very thick layers of cloth, and a blind, as one to whom the sun is anathema cannot be careful enough. Care for more, sweet reader? )

[nWoD story - Dix background piece, comments welcome!]

High summer of 2001, a small, abandoned town somewhere in the American mid-west. Midnight and nothing stirs, dust blowing silently through the dry wood town, a door creaking noisily in the otherwise still air. )

The Post Must Get Through…

This is a very very tongue-in-cheek tale just to try and get me into the writing vibe once again...comments/criticism is welcomed, and i hope you enjoy!

The road was dark as it stretched off through the untamed moor land, in the middle distance the bright lights of a roadside pub showed stark against the blackness of the rough landscape. From outside the pub a figure dressed in black leathers climbed aboard a large motorbike, waving to an unseen presence in the doorway he called out “I know, I know” before pulling off and onto the path, deep into the wild moors... )

(I was given "Rosa, Runeclaws and Tubthumping" by [livejournal.com profile] wayfarers_lodge in a me-me thing and thought i'd post it here in case any are interested - this is a Runeclaws possible future post, pray no offence is taken by any!)

We'll be singing...when we're winning... )

[Dix piece]

(some background: Dix (my PC) has just had a lover killed...and he (being a man) is seeking solace with another woman. His thoughts as he waits for the sun's setting to awaken her aren't necessarily the clearest. This is an attempt to get back to writing - comments appreciated!)

It had been somehow a hard sleep... )
